Pilates Do's With A Bulged Disc

 

    Here are some Pilates Do's for a productive, safe and helpful Pilates practice:

  • Do receive approval from your physician to partake in exercise!
  • Do inform your instructor of your bulged disc and other relevant medical conditions!
  • Do perform Pilates exercises with a neutral spine or a flat back!
  • Do always use caution with rotation!
  • Do perform exercises to strengthen your back!
  • Do perform exercises to strengthen your core!
  • Do avoid exercises that cause the spine to go into extreme flexion and extension!
  • Do avoid exercises that combine flexion with side bending and twisting!
  • Do tell your Pilates instructor if the movements are causing you pain or discomfort!
  • Do perform more extension based exercises!
  • Do use props to elevate the pelvis to maintain a neutral pelvis and spine!
  • Do positions and movements that work in pain-free range and modify any that cause pain or discomfort
